Komen Louisville Call for Proposals for 2012-2013 Grant Funds

December 19, 2011

The Louisville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure now Accepting Applications for 2012 Community Grants

The Louisville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is proud to announce the availability of grant funds for 2012/2013. Applications are now being accepted.  Breast cancer and breast health programs of nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies and educational institutions in the following counties are eligible to apply for grant funds from the Komen Louisville Affiliate: Breckinridge, Bullitt, Grayson, Hardin, Jefferson, Larue, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, Shelby and Spencer in Kentucky, and Clark, Floyd, Harrison, and Scott in Indiana.

Through the Community Grants Program, the Louisville Affiliate awards grants to non-profit organizations providing breast cancer education, screening and support as well as breast health. The Community Grants Program seeks to reduce breast cancer mortality, especially among those who are disproportionately affected by this disease.

Funds available for community grants are generated through the organization’s two major fundraisers, the Komen Louisville Race for the Cure® and the Pink Tie Ball, corporate and private donations and third party events.   Total fundraising for the Affiliate since inception is approximately $5 million. In 2011 the Affiliate awarded $625,000 in community grants and $225 to breast cancer research.  Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Komen Louisville Affiliate stay in the Affiliate’s service area. The remaining 25 percent of the income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program for energizing science to find the cures.

Komen Louisville Affiliate’s funding priorities for 2012 were developed through the analysis of the 2011 community needs assessment as described in the 2011 Community Profile. This document may be found on the Affiliate’s web site:  www.komenlouisville.org. The grant cycle runs from April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013.  Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on January 20, 2012.  Announcements of funding decisions will be made on March 16, 2012.  Questions please contact Kristen Hasselback at khasselback@komenlouisville.org
