After realizing the successes of other Pink Tie Ball events across the country, the Pink Tie Ball was started in Louisville in September 2005. The event was created as a secondary signature fundraiser for Susan G. Komen Louisville, and was designed to create an outlet for those corporate donors and private citizens that might be more likely to support an elegant black tie evening event as opposed to the Race for the Cure®.
The 2005 event surpassed all expectations by Komen Louisville. The event was sold out and raised a record amount for a first time fundraiser. However, the ball did not continue the growth patterns Komen Louisville had hoped for. In 2009, through leadership of the Fund Development Committee and the addition of an event planner, the ball was a huge success once again. The Ball, through the leadership of respective chairwomen and dedicated volunteers, continues to be a success!!
Tremendous strides were made in the improvement of the event in terms of overall quality, publicity, fundraising and attendance. A platform was established to carry forward and guarantee continued future growth. Each year the Pink Tie Ball Executive Committee is empowered with crafting a unique and elegant gala to celebrate life, survivorship, and to raise important funds to carry forward the mission of Susan G. Komen!
