Funding Priorities

Up to 75 percent of the net income from each Affiliate stays in the local community to fund breast health education, screening and treatment programs.  A minimum of 25 percent of the net income from each Affiliate supports the National Komen Grants program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, awards, and educational and scientific conferences around the world.

Grants are available each year to programs that provide breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs within our 15 county service area. Funding priorities for the Grants are based off of our Community Profile assessment that the Komen Louisville Affiliate completes every two years.

Brief Summary of Priorities

In the 2011 Komen Louisville Affiliate Community Profile the following four funding priorities were established.

  • Increase access to screening services of uninsured and underinsured women in economically challenged zip codes of the fifteen county service area.
  • Support breast health providers in effort to insure the uninsured and underinsured patients receive the treatment and support services after diagnosis.
  • Solicit and provide breast health services to non-English speaking breast programing to increase screenings for breast cancer in Jefferson and Hardin Counties in KY and Floyd County in Indiana.
  • Increase knowledge of breast health, offer educational workshops, and provide mammogram services to reach Black women.  Including outreach activities and the use of mobile units in economically challenged zip codes in the service area.

The Community Profile is a needs assessment document that provides an overview of Komen’s grant-making priorities and the breast health needs in our service area. Please familiarize yourself with this document before developing your applications.
