The Louisville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is one of more than 125 Affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure sharing the vision of a world without breast cancer. The Louisville Affiliate was established in 1999 and is comprised of amazing volunteers who work tirelessly to spread the message of early detection to the community.

Board of Directors

The Louisville Affiliate serves eight counties: Jefferson, Spencer, Bullitt, Shelby, Hardin, and Oldham counties in Kentucky, and Clark and Floyd counties in Indiana. Through fundraising events such as the Race for the Cure and Pink Tie Ball, the Louisville Affiliate has raised and granted millions to local breast health programs in our service area. Up to 75% of the money raised by our Affiliate stays in our Kentucky and Indiana service area to fund education, screening, and treatment programs.

Twenty-five percent of the monies raised is pooled with the Komen Affiliate Network and supports the Komen Award and Research Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.

For more than 25 years, Susan G. Komen for the Cure has been a global leader in the fight against breast cancer through its support of innovative research and community-based outreach programs and is the largest private funder of breast cancer research. To date, we've invested $1 billion in research, education and health services. We are committed to investing an additional $2 billion over the next decade to fulfill our promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded on a promise made between two sisters Susan Goodman Komen and Nancy Goodman Brinker. Suzy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1978, a time when little was known about the disease and it was rarely discussed in public. Before she died at the age of 36, Suzy asked her sister to do everything possible to bring an end to breast cancer. Nancy kept her promise by establishing the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 1982 in Suzy’s memory.
